Begin with the violin concerto composed by Wynton Marsalis, a jazz musician and New Orleans bluesman. His amazing music will be performed by American violin virtuoso Kelly Hall-Tompkins, who will also thrill us with Fiddler Fantasy, based on Fiddler on the Roof, composed just for Kelly’s amazing talent. A triumphant season conclusion with Yo-Yo Ma
Our Palace Series final concerts in the 2024-25 season were raised to an extraordinary level of artistry through the participation of the unique Yo-Yo Ma. His genius touched us all profoundly from his playing to his humble, but so pertinent, remarks.
Michael Stern's perfectly crafted program saw Orchestra Lumos excel in the fifth symphony of Jean Sibelius and the rarely played Les Élémens by Jean-Féry Rebel. Perhaps the most perfect few minutes of the whole concert was a surprise addition of The Swan by Camille Saint-Saëns played by Yo-Yo Ma accompanied by lutenist Charles Weaver playing a theorbo.
There is a reason why Yo-Yo Ma is as revered as he is. He is simply one of a kind as a cellist, a humanitarian and a citizen of the world. All of us at Orchestra Lumos, assisted by some very generous donors, are proud to be able to bring musical experiences of this quality to our community here in Fairfield County.
